From the Desk of … Anna Meister

This week I asked poet and MFA candidate Anna Meister to share a photograph of her desk and answer the question: Messy or clean?

Anna Meister's desk

Messy! The process of making poems couldn’t feel more hectic for me & I think I need my space to reflect that. I’ve always been a clutter queen, but this is fairly curated chaos. Everything within reach has a purpose. There’s something ritualistic about setting the space to write: I light a candle, gather the books I’m reading/in conversation with, I inevitably spill coffee on myself. That all feels important. While my bed-desk feels super luxurious, I really think I’m most (or maybe only?) productive when lying down. I never get much done in a chair. – Anna Meister
