From the Desk of … Chuck Young

This week I asked writer Chuck Young to share a picture of his workspace and answer the question: Messy or clean?

I say, get the work in wherever/however you can: messy/clean, kitchen counter/desk, lying in bed/sitting on the toilet. I’m not purposefully trying to continue the trope of dads and their bathroom-sanctuaries but the truth is that my kids understand and respect “I’M TAKING A SHIT!” more than “I’m working. I’m writing. I’m editing.” The computer isn’t something upon which work is done; it’s a machine only used for killing time and playing games (which, of course, is accurate as eff). This buys me time and it really only costs concerned looks/worries of IBS from my 9-year-old daughter. – Chuck Young
