Instagrammers-in-Residence: Mellow Pages Library

This week, we were lucky enough to get a peek inside Mellow Pages Library in Brooklyn for our Instagrammers-in-Residence campaign. (We’ll be featuring a new person, publication, or organization from the literary community from all over the world each week.) If ya’ haven’t already, go follow @actualpants!

Mellow Pages Library is an independent, small-press library in Brooklyn, NY run off of donations and community. We have a lot of books you have never heard of, some you have, and one car seat. Wednesday through Sunday we are open noon-7 (exact timing dependent on the opening librarian’s last night, i.e. how much coffee/coconut water/tylenol they need) to the public as a reading room, but only members can check out the books. And then of course there are nights. Most Friday+Saturday+random other nights of the week you can find what it means when people say WOW. Well, maybe WOW and HUH? Some middle-ground between those two. If you don’t live in EST, find us electronically at mellowpageslibrary.com, or facebook.com/MellowPagesLibrary, or twitter.com/MellowPagesBK, or instagram.com/mellowpageslibrary/, or http://mellowpageslibrary.tumblr.com/, but it’s best to contact us at mellowpageslibrary@gmail.com XO.

It’s Monday and @mellowpageslibrary is closed because Matt and Jacob work jobs. They’ll show you many more photos of the library later in the week, but first they’re going to break some misconceptions. Many people wrongly assume they are both layabouts. But here’s proof of Matt at his job where he manages the Center for Fiction’s library and bookstore. He is about to add to the collection Sarah Gerard’s Binary Star and Carola Dibbell’s The Only Ones both off of Two Dollar Radio. Gotta love those tunes. Tomorrow, look out for Jacob and his fishy money-maker. #libraries4lyf #smallpress #omgwhathavewedone

Here’s the jacobus in his natural contemplative state. What do you think he’s thinking about? @sarahjeanalex new book of poems coming off of #biglucks or maybe @lkshowbiz book from #421atlanta? Or maybe he’s wondering how to best to filet a flounder. We may never know. Come back tomorrow for actual book stuff. #thatswhythebookssmell

This is what my face looks like any given day that Matt’s trapped in Manhattan and all the wild foot of big youtube might leave me a-Sasquatch. Note the books in the background #coolvibez

It’s snowing outside and all I can think is ‘good thing we got Dan Magers and Sarah Rose Etter and Jennifer Mackenzie and Amish Trivedi reading tonight’ cos it gets cold when the wind blows, and we need bodies to keep alive. Stay tuned!
