Video: “Lonesome Cowboy on the Protein Deprivation Trail” by the Mole Suit Choir

Forget that Radiohead thing, check out this sweet new music video for “Lonesome Cowboy on the Protein Deprivation Trail” by the Mole Suit Choir, made by Kristen Anchor:

From Baltimore, The Mole Suit Choir is Elizabeth Downing and Rupert Wondolowski (I always figure that their band name plays off of the title of Wondolowski’s book, The Origin of Paranoia as a Heated Mole Suit). When they play live they are one of the most engaging bands you’ll ever see. Find them at Ehse Records.

The beauty and intensity of this song derives a lot from the droning of Downing’s banjo—I’ve never seen one played in that Jimmy Page style before—as well as the spiraling vocal harmonies. I think the tone of the video, from the visuals to the colors to the quiet movements in the background, matches the songs perfectly.

The lyrics factor, too. They are taken from a poem of the same name by Chris Toll. It’s the one with the line “I’m not a voice crying in the wilderness, I’m the wilderness.” You can listen to Toll read it here:
